I must say, I’m really enjoying working with my new buddy Julie Ray in the partnership we have called garden2kitchen. It’s something we do on radio as well as on stage. Needless to say, I talk about growing food, Julie talks about cooking it and when we work together on radio, our mutual buddy Graeme Stuart talks mainly about eating it – that is when his mouth is not too full! Since we’ve kicked off this new venture, Juls and I have been getting out and about to various food shows, farmers markets and gardening expos to spread the word about growing your own food and cooking simple healthy tasty meals from what you grow and source locally. We have a lot of fun cooking and chatting on stage and our sessions are proving very popular with our audiences. Best of all, I’m learning a lot about cooking, which my family is appreciating – nice change from the good old run-of-the-mill mid week recipes. Hopefully Juls is learning a thing or two about growing as well. Her hubby has built a vegie patch which is a great start.
When we get together to cook, I always set the challenge for Juls based on what I am presently harvesting from my garden. Some of her best recipes stem from the things I have in glut proportions. The latest glut has been lettuce, great for making salads, but what else can you do with it? You can check out Julie’s scrumtious solution at her blog site www.julieray.com.au.
